Strip width: neutral-line girth plus sizing, weld upset and fin pass allowances. Edge strain: geometric estimate, compared with the yield strain.

ASSUMPTIONS & LIMITS

Round welded tube; neutral line at mid-thickness, thickness unchanged by forming.
Sections drawn on the neutral line, bottom of the tube on a fixed pass line (no downhill forming).
No springback, no overbending — the sections are the shape of the strip in the rolls.
Sizing, weld upset and fin-pass allowances are entered from mill practice; they decide the strip width.
Edge strain from a straight edge path between stands: an estimate for comparing flowers, not a prediction of the strain in the mill. Simulate the forming for that.
W-forming (reverse bending in the first passes) and square or rectangular tube are not covered.
